Peer Career Advisors serve as members of the Career Development office staff to provide resources and services to Capital students and alumni. Peer Career Advisors provide peer-to-peer guidance during walk-in hours, assist with daily office operations, and engage in professional development opportunities. Additionally, Peer Career Advisors have individual projects and assignments that will contribute to and enhance their own career development.
• Have individual appointments with students and alumni during “walk-in” hours (9am – 5pm weekdays) and provide help with career related issues, including: o Critiquing resumes and cover letters o Explaining how to use Handshake and other resources for job and internship searches o Directing students to a full-time staff member for additional assistance, as needed • Assist with office operations including: o Maintaining Handshake records and databases o Managing office email and phone o Work on individual projects related to student’s major and/or career path (projects will be chosen or designed by the intern with the approval of the staff; project are to be worked on during scheduled office hours and other times at the discretion of the intern within the agreed-upon deadline for completion). • Attend and participate in weekly staff/professional development meetings — to gain the necessary skills to perform duties and learn about career development.
Requirements to apply: • A current sophomore or junior (will be junior or senior for 2026-2027 academic year) • Minimum GPA of 2.75 • An interest in helping fellow Capital students navigate career related topics • Willingness to learn and build career development skills • Strong & effective communication, listening, writing, and interpersonal skills • Willing to attend a two-day training session in August before classes begin • Willing to schedule on-duty hours between 9 am – 5 pm weekdays • Able to commit for the entire 2026-2027 academic year
