ABOUT THE WRITING CONSULTANT POSITION: Writing Consultants at Capital University conduct both individualized and small group writing consultations face-to-face and online focused on helping student writers navigate the writing process, develop their own ideas further through critical thinking, and become aware of how their writing meets the assigned tasks and speaks to intended audiences.

Responsibilities

As a part of this year-long commitment, Writing Consultants: 1. Support students on all steps of the writing process, from the initial brainstorming phase to the polishing of a final draft. Writing Consultants do not “fix” students’ papers nor solely focus on grammar—rather, Writing Consultants lead through conversation with student writers to develop their ideas, complete the assigned task at hand, and communicate effectively to the targeted audience(s). 2. Collaborate with faculty and the professional staff to support students and encourage them to make frequent and repeated use of the Writing Center. 3. Participate in paid pre-term training and paid professional development opportunities. 4. Perform required administrative tasks regarding the overall services the Writing Center provides to students.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: -Sophomore rank or above at the time of employment -Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA -Must be available to work at least 5-10 hours each week -Commitment for at least a year (both Fall and Spring semesters) based on job performance and need -Presently in good standing with the University in regards to academics and the Student Code of Conduct.

We will convey more information about this training once applicants are accepted into this position. Failure to satisfactorily complete all trainings will result in not being hired for the 2023-2024 academic year.
