Description

The Digitization Student Assistant is responsible for completing digitization projects by request and for ongoing digitization projects as assigned by the Institutional Memory Librarian. Digitization tasks include scanning materials, converting audio or visual material to digital formats, uploading files, converting and condensing files, image manipulation and completing basic description of digitized resources. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

1. Digitize requested materials as assigned using the flatbed or Bookeye Scanner (research requests, department requests, faculty/student requests) 2. Convert requested audio and video analog content to digital formats using audio/visual hardware (tape players, VHS players, real to real players) 3. Digitize materials for ongoing projects using the Bookeye Scanner and other audio/visual hardware (Chimes, Spectator, Capitalian, Conservatory Vinyl records/CDs/DVDs etc.) 4. Create basic description for digitized materials using template in our Integrated Library System (Alma) or Excel 5. Checking and promptly responding to emails from supervisors, student colleagues, and archives patrons 6. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Attention to details. 2. Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 3. Good organization and computer skills. 4. Must be able to operate in a team environment, communicate and work collaboratively with student and professional colleagues. 5. Must be punctual and reliable; work availability must coincide with supervisor and scheduling needs. 6. Must be familiar with using Microsoft Excel and Word and navigating Google Drive. 7. Ability to work independently when necessary; ability to understand and proactively solve problems. 8. Ability and willingness to learn new skills. Physical Requirements 1. Sometimes requires pushing carts of books, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. 2. Requires lengthy periods of sitting and standing.
